U.S., Ukraine Hold Talks Over Possibility of Leaders-Level Meeting
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed Monday that Kyiv and Washington have held discussions over the possibility of a summit-level meeting aimed at charting a path toward ending the war with Russia.
The talks were raised during a recent trip to the United States by Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Zelensky said.
"Possible formats for meetings and negotiations at the level of leaders to end the war were also discussed in America," Zelensky wrote on social media Telegram after a meeting with Umerov.
Umerov echoed that assessment in his own Telegram post, saying a potential leaders-level meeting could become a key element for advancing negotiations, ending the hostilities, and achieving a just and dignified peace.
The disclosures follow a meeting Umerov held last week in Miami with U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner — signaling that back-channel diplomacy between the two allies over the shape of any future peace process is actively progressing.
