UKMTO Reports Tanker Attack Near Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) A commercial tanker was reportedly fired upon after being approached by two armed vessels believed to be linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to maritime security updates.

"The master of a tanker reports being approached by two IRGC gunboats, with no VHF (radio) challenge, which then fired upon the tanker," the agency said in a statement on US social media platform X, with a map of the area in question, around the Strait of Hormuz.

The incident occurred in waters between Iran and Oman, roughly 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman. Authorities are currently investigating the situation.

Despite the reported attack, the vessel and its crew were not harmed, with confirmation that they "are reported safe."
