Witkoff Plans Classified Briefing for Senators on Iran Conflict
The session is reportedly being organized by Republican Senator Joni Ernst, chair of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities.
Earlier on Monday, Democratic members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee called for Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Witkoff, and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to appear before Congress to provide testimony on the ongoing military operation.
Regional tensions have intensified since the US and Israel launched a large-scale strike on Iran on February 28, reportedly killing more than 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, causing casualties and disrupting global markets and aviation, according to reports.
Since the operation began, 13 US service members have died, and roughly 200 others have been injured.
Before the conflict erupted, Kushner and Witkoff were involved in Iran nuclear talks, facilitated by mediation efforts from Oman.
