Multiple Explosions Reported Near US Consulate in Erbil

(MENAFN) Late Tuesday, residents of northern Iraq’s Erbil city reported multiple explosions close to the US Consulate and within the Serbesti neighborhood.

Authorities activated air defense systems in response to an assault involving suicide drones. According to reports, the drones were successfully intercepted and neutralized before causing significant damage.

The Kurdish Regional Government has not issued any statement regarding the events so far.

Explosions in Erbil have become a near-daily occurrence since Iran began retaliating against US and Israeli operations, with air defense measures frequently deployed to counter incoming threats.

Reports indicate that Israel and the US have conducted joint operations against Iran since February 28, resulting in approximately 1,300 fatalities, including high-profile figures.

Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military forces, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and air travel.
