Sanders Condemns Costly Military Campaign
In a statement shared on the US-based social media platform X, Sanders revealed that the conflict has already amounted to $22.8 billion in costs. He emphasized the potential benefits of reallocating these funds, stating: “For $22.8 billion, we could provide Medicaid to 6.8 million kids, build 2.6 million public housing units, fund Head Start for 1.3 million, hire 240,000 teachers, and cancel $20,000 in student debt for 1 million borrowers,” he said.
Highlighting his stance, Sanders urged policymakers to shift their focus toward strengthening public services instead of continuing large-scale military expenditures, particularly as tensions in the region continue to intensify.
Meanwhile, Israel and the United States have sustained coordinated strikes on Iran since February 28, reportedly resulting in approximately 1,300 deaths, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with numerous high-ranking political and military officials.
In response, Iran has launched counterattacks involving drones and missiles aimed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf nations hosting US military installations. These retaliatory actions have led to casualties, infrastructural damage, and significant disruptions to global markets and aviation systems.
