US Envoy Praises Iraq’s Democratic Progress
“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the brave people of Iraq on the successful completion of the recent parliamentary elections, a crucial step toward strengthening democracy and stability in the country,” Savaya stated in an official message released on the US social media platform X.
The American diplomat also lauded Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s administration for managing a seamless and punctual electoral process, emphasizing that the vote was “a clear sign that Iraq is moving toward greater prosperity and sovereignty.”
Reaffirming Washington’s dedication to bolstering Iraq’s independence and reform initiatives, Savaya highlighted that the United States stands prepared to collaborate with the incoming Iraqi administration to further “our strategic partnership” across the fields of security, energy, and development.
Iraq officially wrapped up its parliamentary elections on November 11, recording a voter participation rate of 56.11%.
Sudani’s Reconstruction and Development Coalition secured first place in nine provinces, including Baghdad, the nation’s capital.
The prime minister announced on Wednesday that he would soon commence discussions aimed at establishing a new governing coalition.
Altogether, 7,743 candidates took part in the elections, among them 2,247 women.
