Zelenskyy urges US senators to intensify pressure on Russia
Zelenskyy updated lawmakers on developments at the frontlines, including the situation in Pokrovsk, and noted that Russia suffered its highest personnel losses in October since the full-scale invasion began. He also said Moscow continues to reinforce its military presence despite falling morale among its troops.
“On behalf of all Ukrainians, we are thankful for your bipartisan support … We are thankful to President (Donald) Trump for several initiatives that we will discuss today,” he said.
The Ukrainian leader urged Congress to back legislation allowing the use of frozen Russian assets and pressed for “secondary sanctions,” especially in the energy sector. He also renewed Ukraine’s request for long-range weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, and stronger air defense capabilities.
Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal highlighted their efforts to advance bills on sanctions and to label Russia a state sponsor of terrorism if abducted Ukrainian children are not returned. Zelenskyy noted that families had sent a letter of gratitude to US first lady Melania Trump for her involvement on the matter.
Participants reaffirmed their bipartisan support for Ukraine and commended the resilience of its citizens. The call included Senators Lindsey Graham, Jeanne Shaheen, Richard Blumenthal, Amy Klobuchar, Sheldon Whitehouse, Michael Bennet, Adam Schiff, and Richard Durbin.
