US Envoys Visit Israel for Talks on Gaza Ceasefire
(MENAFN) US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, along with Jared Kushner — President Donald Trump’s son-in-law — arrived in Israel on Monday to engage in discussions about enacting the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
This development was reported by an Israeli national public broadcaster.
According to a prominent Israeli newspaper citing reliable sources, Witkoff and Kushner, who serves as an unofficial adviser to the Trump administration, are anticipated to hold meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top-level Israeli authorities.
These talks will primarily center on the second stage of the ceasefire accord.
The newspaper reported that the discussions will address key aspects such as the creation of a multinational security team stationed in Gaza, the planned withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory, and the dismantling of Hamas’ military capabilities.
These strategic components are viewed as crucial to the broader success of the agreement.
Furthermore, the newspaper noted that these diplomatic engagements are designed to prepare for an upcoming visit by Vice President JD Vance.
Israeli news outlets have indicated that Vance is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday to explore topics linked to the ongoing ceasefire framework.
Back on September 29, President Trump publicly introduced a comprehensive 20-point peace initiative for Gaza.
This plan advocated for an "immediate ceasefire" and a gradual process for the exchange of "hostages and prisoners."
The initial phase of the agreement, which gained the approval of both Israel and Hamas, was formally signed on October 9.
The truce was made possible with mediation from the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye, and it officially went into effect on October 10.
