Fake AI Bear Videos Flood Japan’s Social Media After Lethal Attacks
Misleading video clips depicting ferocious bears are proliferating across TikTok, YouTube, and additional digital platforms at alarming rates, Japanese media reported.
Among the fraudulent content circulating online: AI-manufactured footage showing masses of bears demolishing solar panel installations at an energy site, alongside another fake clip portraying a bear abducting a household pet.
Specialists confirm the material is unmistakably falsified, yet caution that such deceptive media can readily fool viewers when interspersed with authentic documentation.
"Along with increasing news reports of the damage caused by bear attacks, the number of fake bear videos have also increased," declared Daisuke Furuta, Chief editor of Japan Fact-Check Center.
The nation has recorded at least 14 fatalities in confirmed or suspected bear-related incidents throughout the current year, with numerous additional victims sustaining injuries. Three separate prefectures witnessed five attacks on Sunday alone.
Responding to the intensifying threat, Japan Post Co. announced last Wednesday that mail delivery operations could face suspension to protect worker safety.
One day later, the postal corporation halted services across portions of Akita Prefecture, a region experiencing repeated bear sightings and violent encounters.
Telecommunications provider NTT East similarly announced plans to reassess safety protocols for personnel deployed in mountainous zones where bear activity remains prevalent.
